DNA & Molecular Biology Outreach Program

We at GTL are excited to present a few resources designed to help stimulate interest in scientific pursuits in our nation's youth. We have taken over the stewardship of three web-based interactive games originally developed by the Southwest Biotechnology and Informatics Center (SWBIC) in partnership with New Mexico State University.

These games are played interactively over the internet and provide learning experiences for students that involve decision making in various graphic settings, such as setting up, running, and interpreting the results of laboratory tests. The games are suitable for advanced high school and lower level college students.

iDNAfication

Teaches students to use biology and molecular biology techniques (including DNA fingerprinting) to solve forensics mysteries. Teachers may customize the game to omit some modules and to create a list of suspects that includes the students.

Origin: Unknown

Teaches students and science educators how to utilize WWW-based Bioinformatics tools in the analysis of biological macro-molecular sequence data.

Outbreak!

Teaches students the clinical and diagnostic methodologies and skills used in microbiology.
