Genealogy is the practice of tracing a person's or a family's line of descent. Genealogy has many tools at its disposal including written accounts (such as birth, marriage, tax and death records), spoken accounts (stories passed down through generations) and genetic testing results. Depending on the amount and reliability of the information available, a person's genealogy may be charted back by only a few generations or by many generations spanning centuries.
