Y-STR Male Lineage DNA Testing
The Y-STR male lineage test is used to determine whether two or more males are related through their paternal lineage. The Y chromosome is passed from father to son and has a relatively infrequent mutation rate, thus it remains the same through many generations.
This test focuses on the Y chromosome and results in a unique Y-STR profile for each male tested. It is important to note that this test will not differentiate men that are in the same paternal lineage.
For example, if a male child "A" and his alleged half brother Child "B" (Child "B" having a different mother than Child "A") want to know if they have the same biological father, and they have the same Y-STR profile, it is practically proven that they share the same father. If the profiles do not match, then they do not share the same biological father.
This is just one of many circumstances in which the Y-STR test can be applied. Review the chart to the right as a guide. Give us a call toll free at 1.866.833.6895 and speak with one of our very knowledgeable case workers for more information.
